How To Eat Pita Bread/What To Serve With It
- These pitas work well for a wrap. You can use them to make breakfast egg wraps or to wrap your chicken salad with.
- Cut these pitas open and fill them with veggies or meat.
- Use them for a pizza crust, either to make your own frozen pizzas or to eat fresh.
- Cut them up and use them to dip in dips.
- Or my husband likes to just eat them plain, I prefer them with butter if I’m going to eat them plain.
How To Make Homemade Pita Bread
Step 1 – Combine flour, yeast, and salt in a bowl.
Step 2 – Then add warm water and stir until dough forms, it should be a soft dough and slightly sticky.

Step 3 – Next, cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for 8 minutes.
Step 4 – After the dough has rested for 8 minutes divide it into pieces depending on how big or small you want your pitas, I like to make about 10.

Step 5 – Roll out the pieces one at a time on a floured surface till about 1-1.5 cm thick. You can do this with a rolling pin, or if you have a pasta maker just run it through without the blades and it makes them the perfect thickness and is faster.

Step 6 – Heat a cast iron or nonstick pan over medium-low heat until hot.
Step 7 – Then place pitas one at a time in the pan and cook for about a minute on each side, flipping about every 30 seconds to prevent burning.

Step 8 – These pitas are best eaten fresh, but will remain soft at room temperature for several hours.

Tips:
- Don’t grease your pan. Because it will make the flour on the outside of the pitas stick to the pan and it will make a mess.
- If anyone figures out how to fry these pitas without filling the house with smoke, let me know. I have yet to accomplish that.
- If you are going to cut these pitas and fill them, it is easiest to cut them in half as soon as they come off the pan and place something in between the pita layers where it puffed or it will stick back together.
- Not every single one of mine puffs up and makes a cavity in the center. I have ones that do and ones that don’t, but it isn’t that important to us that they have a cavity, often we just break them up anyway.

Yes, you can freeze pita bread. If you want to make your pita bread ahead or need to store it for longer than a few days, then it freezes well, in ziplock freezer bags. You can pull it out, defrost it, and heat it in the microwave or oven. Or you can use it frozen as a pizza crust.
