Coffee filter flowers are cheap, simple, and make a pretty decoration for many occasions. This craft toddlers can do by themselves!

Making coffee filter flowers is a lot of fun, even as an adult. You can color them all the same and they still turn out differently because of how the water hit them, which makes them cool. I also just think they look pretty, almost like a stained glass window.
My toddler picked up very quickly how to make these. Now she will ask me for coffee filters at random times so she can make them. It’s also fun that they can pretty much make them themselves so that you can make them alongside them.
What You Need:
- Coffee filters – Any kind will work
- Washable markers – They must be washable for this to work right
- Spray bottle with water – For spraying the coffee filters after you color them
- Tape or glue – To hold the coffee filter in a flower-shape
- Pipe cleaners (optional) – Can be used for flower stems if you want stems on your flowers
How To Make Coffee Filter Flowers
- First, you will need to gather all your supplies.
- Then lay the coffee filters flat, you may have to press your finger along the lines on the filters to get them to lay flat.
- Color the coffee filters however you want to. You can make designs or just scribble on them, they will look nice in the end either way. You want to make sure to put a bit of color on, because if you have too little when you wet the coffee filter it will spread out and you won’t really be able to see it.

- After you have the coffee filters colored, you can lay them all on a towel and spray them with a spray bottle. You will want to get them really wet for the best results.

- When you have them wet you can either leave them on the towel to dry or move them to a rack. I move mine to a rack to dry and they only take about 15 minutes to dry since they are so thin.
- You can just leave them like this, or there are directions to turn them into flowers below.
How To Turn Coffee Filters Into Flowers –
- After they are dry, you are going to take them and fold them in half. If your toddler is folding them they won’t quite be in half, but that is okay, they will still look fine in the end.

- Then fold it in half again so that it is only a quarter of the coffee filter. Again, it won’t be perfect but that is okay.

- Next, pick it up and twist the bottom corner of the coffee filter till it is twisted about a quarter of the way up.
- Tape or glue the twisted part together. My toddler loves wrapping the tape around it.

- If you want to add a stem, twist a pipe cleaner around the twisted part and trim it to the desired size.
- Arrange the top of the flower to look how you want it to. I did this part because my toddler couldn’t quite figure out how to pull them apart without ripping them.

- Place them around to give a little cheer while there aren’t real flowers outside to decorate with. (Although yesterday we found a dandelion!)
