This homemade hot cocoa uses just 3 common kitchen ingredients! It is the perfect thing to warm you up on a cold winter day!

When it first got cold this winter I was buying hot cocoa packets from the store. After going through a couple boxes and running out at all the time. I came to the realization that I should just make myself. It would be healthier, cheaper, and I wouldn’t run out so easy. So I messed around with making my own hot cocoa for a while. But I was still buying it from the store because I couldn’t get it how I wanted it to taste. It tasted too dark and it just wasn’t the flavor I was used to.
After running out yet again and having to buy another box of hot cocoa from the store (which I didn’t like the price of) I finally sat down and mixed until I had the flavor I wanted in my homemade hot cocoa. I really was just trying too hard, because once I just went back to the basic ingredients it was ridiculously easy! I ended up just using 3 ingredients, cocoa, sugar, and salt.
Ingredients
This simple homemade hot cocoa is made of just 3 common kitchen ingredients. The first being cocoa, because well you can’t have hot cocoa if it doesn’t have cocoa in it. Next is sugar. This is necessary to give it it’s sweetness. Lastly salt. This is optional, but I recommend adding it. The salt adds a little more to the flavor. The recipe is just 1 part cocoa, 2 parts sugar, and just a bit of salt.

Variations of Homemade Hot Cocoa
- Make it with all milk instead of water.
- Use a peppermint stick to stir it to give it a nice peppermint flavor.
- Add some cyanine pepper to give it a nice slight spice. It might sound like a funny thing to add but it does taste good, especially if you have a sore throat.
